OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
At Green Specialty Ingredients, sustainability is at the heart of everything that we do. Our business was founded on the idea that offering customers clean raw materials from sustainably managed sources can lead to an enduring firm that remains in harmony with nature.
The foundation of our sustainability strategy rests upon the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a collection of goals and associated targets set by the United Nations in 2015. These 17 interrelated goals represent an ambitious agenda to achieve a sustainable future by 2030, and cover social and economic development issues including poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, urbanization, environment and social justice.
Below are the SDGs and associated targets where Green Specialty Ingredients can have the greatest impact.
Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Goal 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
Goal 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
We prioritize procurement of raw materials from sustainably managed sources. We strive to work with suppliers who minimize their environmental impacts by using organic or low pesticide use production methods, reducing energy consumption, using renewable energy technologies to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and reduce their waste stream (Targets 8.4, 9.4, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, 15.1 – 15.9).
Where possible, we work directly with small producers to help them improve their management skills, production capabilities and access to markets. Our firm’s focus on innovative alternatives leads to high-value added employment (Targets 8.2, 8.3, 9.2).
We focus our business on offering customers clean raw materials, which will help to substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination (Target 3.9).
We provide a safe and healthy working environment for all of our employees, and seek to ensure that our suppliers do the same. As advocates for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature, we work to raise awareness of these issues and improve practices in the communities with which we do business. We encourage our customers to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle (Targets 8.3, 9.2, 12.6, 12.8, 15.1 – 15.9).
We are transparent in our management and commercial relations and work to maintain open channels of communication throughout our supply chain. We hold ourselves accountable to our stakeholders and look for appropriate ways to involve employees, customers, and suppliers in our decision-making processes (Target 12.8).
